This week during Mark’s Safety Talk, the focus was placed on the proper use of grinders and their accessories. Some of the information he provided to our team is as follows:
Angle grinders are used frequently in our facility, and many people choose to use them in their homes as well. The safety features on grinders have improved immensely over the years, such as:
- Wheel Guards
- Anti Vibration Handles
- Double insulated Bodies to prevent shock
We still, however, have to ensure that the equipment is well maintained. The following are some actions we can take to make sure we control the risk of injuries while using this piece of equipment:
- Check for cracks in the body of the grinder
- Check the cord for cracked insulation or bare wires
- Make sure you guard is tight and not bent
- Make sure you trigger hold button functions properly
- Make sure you use the proper stone for the job
