THE FATAL FOUR

By June 8, 2017 Safety Blog

As Mark was out this morning, Jeff took the floor to discuss the work places’ “Fatal Four.”  To demonstrate the dangers of the ‘Fatal Four,’ Jeff provided some statistics from 2014 regarding workplace fatalities:

safety talks

  1. Falls – accounted for 40% of all workplace fatalities
  2. Electrocution –8.2% of workplace fatalities
  3. Struck by Equipment –8.1% of workplace fatalities
  4. Caught in Between Equipment – 4.3% of workplace fatalities

Our goal during today’s Safety Talk was to remind everyone to evaluate these hazards while working in a manufacturing or construction setting.  While falling can be prevented by employees “tying off” at heights above six feet, all of these workplace hazards are best prevented by one’s awareness and evaluation:  be aware of the dangers, evaluate the situation, and ensure equipment is operating properly before use.
